The Industrial Design Office Practice Manual (IDOP) provides information on the Industrial Design Office's operational procedures and examination practices; it is the primary source of information on how to prosecute an application for the registration of an industrial design in Canada.
The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) has made significant changes to the IDOP in order to operationalize the legislative and regulatory changes necessary for Canada to accede to the Hague Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Industrial Designs, and to modernize the industrial design framework more generally. The version replaces the Industrial Design Office Practice Guide dated . However, some sections of the previous Industrial Design Office Practice Guide remain applicable to applications with a filing date prior to .
The IDOP was developed in close collaboration with stakeholders. Feedback from the industrial design agent community informed a number of revisions which are reflected in this version.
The IDOP will be updated periodically to reflect changes relating to the prosecution of industrial design rights in Canada.
In addition to conventional formats, the IDOP is also available on a new platform which delivers enhanced functionality for users, including a navigation menu and improved search capability.
